Daniel has taught at Art Center College of Design, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Julia Dean Workshops and just recently returned from teaching a workshop in Peru. He is a member of the Advisory Board at Blurb, a print on demand book publishing company, and he splits his time between Southern California and New Mexico.

There are a ton of reasons why I’ve been so excited to have Daniel on the show. In addition to his inspirational photographic work, his lifestyle reveals what it really means to live an artful life. In his own words, “he is happiest with his notebook, Leica camera and trusty leather boots, sizing up whatever situation is happening in front of him.”

Does it get any better than that?

Click below and join me for a conversation with Daniel.

I’m thrilled about this episode featuring a conversation with fine art photographer Kim Weston. Kim has been a personal inspiration since I had the opportunity to first meet him at one of his workshops nearly 6 years ago. I’ve since attended additional workshops of his, and have grown a great deal (both personally and professionally) as a direct result of Kim’s teachings and influence.

Kim has been a fine art photographer for over 30 years specializing in large format photography and the human figure, and is a third-generation member of one of the most important and creative families in the history of fine art photography (Kim learned his craft alongside his Father Cole and his Uncle Brett, and assisted in the darkroom making gallery prints from his Grandfather Edward’s original negatives).

Famous last name aside, Kim has created a very important and valuable body of work over the years, and as you’ll learn in this episode, he is continually evolving and growing as a visual artist. Perhaps most inspiring about Kim is his genuine artful life. Kim has said that his life is his art, and this is clearly evident in his thoughtfulness, his lifestyle and the unique ways in which he sees and experiences the world around him. Kim and his wonderful wife Gina generously share their passion, energy and artistic vision with workshop participants throughout the year. In addition, they run a unique scholarship program in the spirit of celebrating the roots of photographic history and keeping the traditional process of the black and white photographic medium alive.

Kim and I address many topics in our conversation, with a great deal of discussion about the complete process of photography, and the nuances of living an artful life. Also evident throughout our conversation is Kim’s passion and commitment to his family, along with his genuine interest in maintaining the value and integrity of fine art photography, and giving back to the community through continual teaching and workshops.

I am honored to have Kim as a guest, and I encourage all of you to visit his website and follow along on his journey through his blog. You can also find links to Kim and Gina’s scholarship, workshops and other events on his website.

Join me now for an inspiring conversation with Kim Weston.

I discovered John’s work through a series of poignant films produced by Mark which provide a comprehensive exploration of John’s creative journey in an authentic and really inspiring, deeply personal format.

We explore a wide range of topics, including the traditions and nuances of the landscape photography marketplace, the grandeur and beauty of light, and John’s experience with transitioning from 4×5 film to the digital realm.

For this episode of the Folio Podcast I’m really excited to feature a conversation with photographer and Laguna Beach gallery owner David Tosti.

David shares with us some really insightful stories about balancing the day to day management and curation of his contemporary fine art gallery, along with his journey as a professional photographer. Perhaps what I really enjoyed most about this interview with David is learning more about his commitment to discovering and showcasing the work of emerging artists across various art mediums, and how he is infusing a unique and all new level of creative energy to the well known art community of Laguna Beach.

David has a great sense of artistic style, both in his image making and his overall approach to life. He’s passionate about photography, entrepreneurialism, community, and family. This is what makes him such a great guest for the Folio podcast.

Join me now for an enjoyable and art-filled conversation with David Tosti.

For this episode of the Folio Podcast we feature an inspiring conversation with artist Promise Tangeman. Promise is professional photographer, designer and fine artist based out of Arizona. She brings an enthusiastic passion for the arts, and is a perfect guest for the Folio Podcast in so many ways. A self described “artistic fashion junky” Promise is building a prolific body of work, as well as nurturing and growing a worldwide community of like-minded artists and creative professionals.

I’m truly inspired by Promise’s journey, and have learned a lot from her on the importance of using your art to give back and provide added value to the community. I really enjoyed this conversation with Promise. We touched on a wide variety of topics, all of which center on the topic of living an artful life.

Episode 6, featuring Me Ra and Brian of Me Ra Koh Photography

I’m thrilled to bring you a really engaging conversation with husband and wife team of Me Ra and Brian of Me Ra Koh photography. This episode is a real treat for me, as I have been so deeply inspired by Me Ra and Brian over the years, both professionally and personally.

Me Ra and Brian are on a very unique and important journey and are building an international brand that is fast becoming a household name. At the core of their journey is a commitmemnt to family, community and creativity…and to say their personalities and passion are contagious, well that would be an understatement.

(photos by Rick Chapman)

In this episode we touch on how Me Ra and Brian first met, how they’ve built their business (and what’s in store for the future) and how they live a lifestyle that encourages continual exploration and thoughtfulness. What I find to be one of Me Ra’s most admired traits is her authenticity and transparency, and throughout our conversation she openly shares with us the trials and tribulations they’ve encountered and overcome. And, perhaps one of my favorite topics that we cover is their recent multi-month adventure of living and working from the jungles of Thailand with their two young children….we get into details about monkeys in the kitchen, outdoor showers, visa runs to Berma and much more. Definitely a highlight of the show.

You can view Me Ra and Brians work at www.merakoh.com, and I especially encourage you to visit Me Ra’s blog at www.merakohblog.com for an unfiltered and intriguing glimpse of their daily adventures. I hope you enjoy this meaningful and interesting conversation with Me Ra and Brian.

Epiosode 3: Crash Taylor

For this episode of the FOLIO Podcast we bring you a great conversation with photographer Crash Taylor. Based out of the UK, Crash is a highly acclaimed wedding and portrait photographer with a distinctive style and contagious personality. Over a rather short period of time Crash has nurtured and grown his business to become a prominent and trusted global brand. Crash is truly committed to the professional photography community and he provides a great amount of personal dedication to the advancement and education of our craft.

I first discovered Crash and his work through his inspiring interview series with a wide variety of leading photographers that he publishes online on a regular basis. As such, it was really fun to “turn the tables” on Crash and interview the interviewee for this podcast episode. Crash believes life without family, passion and photography is unforgivable. For this, and many more reasons, I hope you’ll enjoy this conversation with Crash Taylor as much as I did. Thanks for listening!
